LSU pitchers log 45 strikeouts in opening series, most in over 3 decades

It’s a little early to start thinking College World Series, but LSU pitchers have the swing-and-miss working to start the 2025 campaign.
Tiger hurlers had their way with Purdue Fort-Wayne, recording 45 strikeouts in the opening weekend series. It’s the most for LSU pitching in a series since 1992.

It was a series sweep for LSU. The Tigers notched 17 Ks in Friday’s 14-0 win. Starter Kade Anderson went 5 scoreless innings, striking out 8 while allowing 4 hits and walking 1. Casan Evans, Jacob Mayers and Cooper Williams tossed 4 hitless frames to complete the shutout, striking out 8.
The series win was secured with a 10-1 victory Saturday. Anthony Eyanson went 5 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Connor Benge, DJ Primeaux and Mavrick Rizy combined for 4 scoreless innings and 8 more Ks.
LSU brought out the brooms on Sunday, completing the sweet with an 8-1 win. Chase Shores went 5 innings, striking out 7 while allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits. Grant Fontenot, William Schmidt and Jaden Noot delivered 7 more strikeouts over 4 scoreless innings to bring the K tally to 45 for the weekend.
The Tigers will be back at it on Tuesday when Southern comes to Alex Box Stadium. The game is set for 3 p.m. ET, streaming on SEC Network+.
