LSU was up at the half by four points against Texas A&M on Saturday night, but then things went south fast as they were outscored by 28 points in the second half and lost, 49-25.
With the loss, the Tigers are now 5-3 on the season in a year that the team was supposed to finally break through under coach Brian Kelly.
Kelly’s hot seat status appears to be reaching a boiling point, as Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger reported on Sunday that decision-makers for LSU are discussing Kelly’s future. And according to On3’s Pete Nakos, LSU position coaches have been sent home for the day following these conversations.
Nakos earlier in the day reported that there was expected to be some changes to the staff, but nothing has been announced as of yet.
The Tigers had major expectations entering the season, and then the Week 1 win at Clemson only fueled the hype. LSU was ranked as high as No. 3 in the AP Poll this season.
One of the biggest issues this season has been the play of an offense that was expected to be among the very best in college football. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier returned with Heisman Trophy buzz, but Saturday night ended with him being frustrated as he was pulled from the game late in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers are on a bye, and the schedule gets no easier as their next game will be at Alabama in two weeks.
