The LSU Tigers are set to debut a brand new public address announcer at the iconic Tiger Stadium this season, after longtime stalwart Dan Borne stepped down this past summer due to health concerns.
According to Scott Rabalais of The Advocate, the next man to fill the coveted role will be State Representative and Baton Rouge native Dixon McMakin.
McMakin reportedly beat out two other LSU PA announcers for the role in Bill Franques and Mike Smith.
Franques, who currently works all of the Tigers’ home baseball games, actually filled in for Borne during the 2024 season while he was away from the team, while Smith is the longtime PA announcer for LSU gymnastics.
Son of former Tigers’ baseball player Wall McMakin, Dixon McMakin is a 2013 graduate from LSU Law School. He has served as the State Representative for Baton Rouge’s District 68 since his election to the position in 2023.
He’s also served as a PA announcer for several other Tigers’ sporting events over the years, and will now become just the fourth person to hold the honor of being the voice of Death Valley on fall Saturdays, according to The Advocate.
LSU’s home opener is on Sept. 6 against Louisiana Tech.
