LSU executive deputy athletics director Verge Ausberry was named the university’s interim AD after Scott Woodward was fired on Friday, following Louisiana governor Jeff Landry’s statement that Woodward wouldn’t lead the search for Brian Kelly’s replacement.

Just days later, it looks as if the interim tag is set to be removed. Wade Rousse, who was named the university’s president on Tuesday, will make Ausberry LSU‘s permanent athletics director, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellinger. Per Dellinger, the university will officially announce the news “in the coming days.”

More importantly, Dellinger is reporting that Ausberry will officially lead the football program’s search for a new head coach. He’ll be assisted in the search by Rousse, along with “select members of the board (and) donors.” Ausberry was initially given the authority to lead the head coaching search when he was named deputy AD.

Ausberry, a native of New Iberia, La., was named deputy AD under Woodward in 2019. An LSU graduate, he was a former member of the football team. He graduated from the university in 1990, ultimately receiving a master’s in 1992.

With a new president in Rousse — and now with Ausberry being named to the AD role permanently — LSU appears ready to move forward as it looks for a successor to Kelly.
