LSU is making a move to re-hire a former staff member who made a big impact on the Tigers in his first stint with the program, per a report.

LSU is expected to bring back former general manager Austin Thomas for the 2024 season, per a report from The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander. Thomas previously worked at LSU and was amongst college football’s first staffers to hold the general manager title.

Thomas spent the past 2 seasons as Ole Miss’ chief of staff. He has two previous stints at LSU — from 2013-17 and then again in 2021. When Brian Kelly took over as head coach after the 2021 season, Thomas was not retained.

According to The Advocate’s report, Thomas will play a “key role in roster management and personnel” on Kelly’s support staff in 2024.

Thomas is not the only previous LSU staffer to re-join the program this offseason. The Tigers have also reunited with cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond, who spent the past 2 seasons at Florida after a long stint with LSU before Kelly took over.

LSU will be expected to fight for a spot in the expanded College Football Playoff next season. The Tigers have overhauled their defensive coaching staff following a 9-3 campaign in 2023.
