Lane Kiffin’s arrival in Baton Rouge triggered a period of change within the storied program, and the transfer portal has been one example of that reality.
The latest movement surrounding LSU occurred on Wednesday, when sophomore running back Ju’Juan Johnson announced his decision to enter the transfer portal.
The 6-foot, 210-pound tailback sparingly saw the field as a freshman in 2024 before making an impact in some mop-up duty this fall. Johnson racked up 151 yards and 2 touchdowns on 38 carries in 2025, highlighted by a 66-yard performance against South Carolina on Oct. 11. He also hauled in 17 passes for 72 yards.
Rated a 4-star prospect in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports, Johnson still holds the record for career all-purpose yards (14,451) and total touchdowns (171) in Louisiana High School Football history, which all came while leading his team to 4 straight state title appearances.
The Lafayette Christian Academy product was a high school quarterback but began his LSU career as a defensive back before ultimately transitioning to tailback. His lone passing attempt was a 14-yard completion against Arkansas this past year.
Johnson also held offers from the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M coming out of high school.
