LSU starting OT to remain with Tigers after brief entry into portal

The fluidity of the transfer portal continues to know no bounds, and a prime example of that reality occurred Sunday.

Imports and exports surrounding LSU have been closely monitored since the portal officially opened Friday, as the Lane Kiffin era is off and running with the new head coach looking to solidify his 2026 roster with some key additions.

But while bringing in players is always nice, retaining them is arguably even more important, and Kiffin & Co. have had to fight somewhat of an uphill climb when it comes to keeping their athletes in town.

Early Sunday morning, 247Sports’ Chris Hummer reported that the Tigers’ redshirt-freshman offensive tackle Weston Davis would be entering the portal after starting 10 games for LSU this past year.

But just over an hour later, Hummer revealed that Davis has actually withdrawn his name from the portal, with the Beaumont, Texas native now being set to return to Baton Rouge in 2026.

A former 4-star recruit as rated by 247Sports, Davis redshirted in 2024 after appearing in 4 games before the 6-foot-7, 317 lb. tackle emerged into a reliable starter for the Tigers in 2025.

Kiffin and his staff must have pounced on Davis as soon as he announced his decision to transfer, and it’s safe to assume that the deal for him to stay in town has been sweetened.
