The LSU Tigers appeared to be hitting their stride entering their Week 9 bye. Lane Kiffin‘s Bayou Bengals beat Mississippi State and Auburn by a combined 69-17 score, looking like the team that throttled Clemson in their season opener.
With the ball rolling down the tracks, the Tigers are doing all they can to best position themselves for a College Football Playoff and championship chase. According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, LSU is attempting to sign Dave Aranda to an analyst-type tole. Aranda, who’s in Baton Rouge, seems to be interested in the position.
Aranda was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator in 2019, when the Tigers boasted one of the best college football teams of all time. LSU’s offense, with Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, among others, got the most attention that season, but Aranda’s defense excelled in a supporting role. His work for the Bayou Bengals got him the Baylor head coaching job in 2020.
Following the shortened COVID season, Aranda led the Bears to a 12-2 record in 2021. Baylor captured the Big 12 Championship and beat No. 8 Ole Miss 21-7 in the Sugar Bowl. From there, though, things spiraled. In the four years that followed, Aranda finished above .500 just once before being fired in the middle of the 2026 campaign.
LSU faces Alabama on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC).
