All offseason, the chatter has been lively from both sides as No. 8 Alabama and Florida State will take the field in Tallahassee on Aug. 30. Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos threw a barb at Alabama’s defense, claiming that they won’t be as effective at shutting him down without legendary head coach Nick Saban.
That prompted a swift response from team captains Deontae Lawson and Tim Keenan at SEC Media Days. Now, defensive lineman LT Overton is getting in the mix with his opinion. Overton said that Alabama’s defense will take its cues from the veterans.
“We just listen to our leaders,” Overton said. “Disrespect will be addressed accordingly.”
Overton added that preparing for Jalen Milroe in practice last season is comparable to what Alabama’s defense will be up against with the dual-threat transfer from Boston College.
“It’s nothing different,” Overton said. “It’s being able to compete him contained, keeping our rush lanes in check, and making sure he just keeps the ball — we want to make sure [Castellanos] doesn’t want the ball in his hands anymore.”
The College Station, Texas native transferred from Texas A&M to Alabama after the 2023 season. Overton was a starter during his first season with the Crimson Tide, amassing 42 total tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble.
Alabama at Florida State is set for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff and will be televised on ABC.
