Luke Doty has gradually made his way back to practice in recent days following a foot injury suffered in fall camp. The South Carolina quarterback met with reporters on Tuesday and offered an update on how the foot feels with regard to his return to action.

“I feel like I’m pretty close,” Doty said, and mentioned that there was a slight chance he could have played last week.

Some progress remains, though, including his confidence in running, which is the biggest thing for him in getting ready to play on Saturday. He wants to feel 100 percent that he can move.

“I’m definitely expected to be 100 percent on Saturday,” Doty said.

After the first glimpse of the Marcus Satterfield offense, Doty was impressed.

“I think when you have that kind of creativity, it makes it a lot of fun,” Doty said. “The way that he designs plays and works around the guys that we have and the athletes that we have and gets them involved, that was awesome to see.”

Coach Shane Beamer has said that he won’t name a starter ahead of the game on Saturday at East Carolina. Doty, for his part, praised last week’s starting QB Zeb Noland.

“I thought he did awesome,” Doty said. “He does everything that he’s asked to do. Me personally, I look up to him. Just watching the way he went out there and moving the ball down the field. That’s something I admire, the way that he goes out there and executes.”
