Luke Fickell is one only a few coaches who have played both Alabama and Georgia in the last year or so. The Cincinnati coach was a guest on The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday to describe the difference in the teams.
Both have really big, physical athletes, and there’s ultimately not much difference between the teams, he said.
“I do think there’s a bit of a difference, especially this year defensively a little bit,” Fickell said. “I think Georgia has been a little bit more of an aggressive defense. They’ve made some more things happen by blitzing, by doing some different things. I think this year Alabama has relied upon the structure of how they do it, being physical up front. Not having to create as many things with blitzes, just being more physical, more sound. I think tonight we’re going to see who’s idea wins out and can Alabama stay with what they’ve done and be a little bit more vanilla, maybe not load the box, maybe not blitz as much.”
Likewise, does Georgia blitz Bryce Young, and risk giving up big plays doing that, Fickell wondered.
“What adjustments and changes they make from a few weeks ago will be really unique,” he said.
