Mac Jones’ jerseys reportedly flying off the shelves in New England

Being named a starting quarterback in the NFL is a jolt to a player’s popularity, and former Alabama star Mac Jones is the latest example.
By noon on Tuesday, only a couple hours after Jones was reported to be the starter, Jones’ jerseys at Patriots Pro Shop were sold out, reported Mike Reiss of ESPN.
Jones being named the starter came the same morning it was reported that the Patriots would cut Cam Newton. Though he didn’t start any preseason games, Jones took 107 snaps to 38 for Newton. He completed 69 percent (36 of 52) of his passes for 389 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions, the Associated Press reported.
“I’ve learned at a young age to just prepare like the starter,” Jones said Sunday. “You don’t have to be the starter, but you have to prepare and get into your routine.”
The Patriots took Jones No. 15 overall in the NFL Draft last spring, which made him the first quarterback selected in the first round during coach Bill Belichick’s time in New England.
