Mac Jones received the start for the New England Patriots on “Monday Night Football” against the Chicago Bears, his first game since suffering a high ankle sprain against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3.

Unfortunately, the former Alabama star lasted just a few minutes into the 2nd quarter before being yanked in favor of Bailey Zappe. Jones was 3-of-6 for just 13 yards, while running for 24 yards on 3 carries.

Jones’ departure came with just under 2 minutes played in the 2nd as he was picked off by Jaquan Brisker with the Patriots driving in Bears territory. After Chicago went 3-and-out, Zappe came in and immediately led a 55-yard touchdown drive, going 3-of-3.

This isn’t what the Patriots and their fans wanted to see from Jones after he was taken in the first round in 2021. He could be in danger of seeing his job taken by the rookie from Western Kentucky, a 4th-round selection. That being said, knowing Bill Belichick, the longtime New England head coach won’t tip his hand.

As you might expect, social media was abuzz after Jones’ benching:
