Malachi Toney scores 2 touchdowns in first quarter of Miami’s season-opener

Malachi Toney burst onto the college football scene last year, helping lead the Miami Hurricanes all the way to the national championship before losing to Indiana. He showcased his ability to make big plays after the catch, and that looks like it will continue in 2026.
On Friday night, the Hurricanes got their season started on the road at Stanford. Toney picked up right where he left off, as he scored two touchdowns in the first quarter against the Cardinal while sending an early message to Heisman Trophy voters all across the country.

Toney is a big reason why the Hurricanes are once again viewed as the class of the ACC and a legitimate contender to make a run at winning the College Football Playoff. The schedule also lines up very nicely for Miami, as Notre Dame is the only team on the schedule that is currently ranked in the Top 25. If the Hurricanes are able to reach their ceiling, then Toney could hear his name called in New York late in the season.
Miami is rolling against the Cardinal, leading 21-3 entering halftime. As it stands, Toney has totaled 10 receptions for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns.
