Texas A&M will head into new season with some offensive staff changes. One move in particular could bode well for star quarterback Marcel Reed.

Amid the staff reconstruction by Mike Elko, former offensive assistant Joey Lynch is now Texas A&M‘s quarterbacks coach. Reed’s relationship with Lynch dates back to when the quarterback was in high school. Reed was playing at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville and was recruited by Lynch, who was Vanderbilt’s offensive coordinator at the time.

Reed raves about Lynch’s coaching abilities and the bond they’ve fostered over the years.

“He can really focus in on us instead of just the entire offense. He does a really good job in meetings. Just trying to point out certain things we need to work on. I think my relationship with Coach Lynch is amazing,” Reed said. “I talk ball with him all the time. Whether it’s just watching practice or talking about extra protection stuff. We have a really good relationship…Being able to have him as my coach this year is awesome.”

Lynch has been on Texas A&M’s staff since 2024, beginning as a senior offensive analyst. He also previously coached at Ball State from 2009 to 2019, including as offensive coordinator.

Reed is coming off a strong season in which he passed for 3,169 yards with 25 touchdowns while also rushing for six scores.
