Marcel Reed’s epic season as the quarterback at Texas A&M was recognized on Tuesday afternoon when he was named as 1 of 3 finalists for the prestigious Davey O’Brien Award.

The 3rd-ranked Aggies are undefeated at 11-0 and a perfect 7-0 in the SEC, and the sophomore signal-caller is a big reason for that. He’s also a Heisman Trophy candidate and this Friday night will try to help Texas A&M complete an undefeated regular season when the Aggies visit rival Texas in a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC.

The other 2 finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award are Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Ohio State’s Julian Sayin, who just happen to be the quarterbacks of the only 2 teams who are ranked ahead of Reed’s Aggies. So, the 3 finalists are the quarterbacks of the top 3 teams in the country, at least at this moment.

The Texas A&M football social media account celebrated Reed being a Davey O’Brien Award finalist with a post that hailed his leadership and character as he excelled in both academics and athletics.

The only Davey O’Brien Award winner in Texas A&M’s proud football history is Johnny Manziel, who captured the award in 2012. Manziel also won the Heisman Trophy that year.

Reed is in the running for both awards, too, thanks to a monster 2025 season in which he’s already thrown for 2,752 yards with 25 touchdown passes and just 8 interceptions. He’s also been a terror on the ground, rushing for 395 yards and 6 more touchdowns with still that 1 more regular-season game to play on Friday night.
