The Clemson Tigers entered the 2025 season with real national championship aspirations for the first time in years, but all of the optimism they had coming into the new campaign has quickly evaporated following the team’s 1-2 start.

This less-than-ideal turn of events over the first few weeks of the season naturally led to reporters asking longtime head coach Dabo Swinney what exactly has been going wrong for the Tigers, a question to which Swinney had a very fiery response on Tuesday afternoon.

In classic Dabo fashion, the 2-time national championship winner went on a rant where he listed off his long list of accomplishments while at the helm of the program, and essentially said that if the administration and fanbase don’t like where the Tigers are at then to fire him and find somebody else who can replicate the success he’s had over the past decade.

This unsurprisingly made all sorts of headlines, and ESPN analyst Marcus Spears had a very blunt response to Swinney’s tirade on Tuesday morning’s episode of First Take.

“When you start bringing up the past, you’re in your feelings,” Spears said. “Everybody knows Dabo’s accolades, and they know the success he’s had at Clemson. Every coach always says that this game is about ‘What have you done for me lately?’ So we got the right to criticize when you’re not doing well. You’re 1-2 right now, and a part of this is that he (Dabo) doesn’t want to be a part of this new thing that’s happening in college football… There’s nothing to take away from him, but the reality is that while we sit here in September of 2025, you’re 1-2.”
