Mario Cristobal dismisses Miami wide receiver, key transfer addition

The Miami Hurricanes are coming off the most successful season in the Mario Cristobal era after making an improbable run to the National Championship game, and the expectations are even higher for the Canes in 2026.
If Miami wants to finish the job this time around and claim its first National Championship since 2001, though, it will have to find a way to replace a ton of production from its 2025 squad, which has since departed for the NFL.
Former West Virginia star wideout Cam Vaughn was brought in over the offseason to help reload a depleted Canes’ offense, but it looks like Cristobal and his staff will now be forced to do without the talented pass catcher, with Miami beat reporter Adam Lichtenstein reporting that Vaughn has been dismissed from the team.
Lichtenstein also reported that Cristobal did not disclose the reason behind Vaughn’s dismissal, only that the Miami head coach “wished him the best” moving forward.

Vaughn was widely viewed as one of the top wideouts available in the transfer portal after putting up a solid season with the Mountaineers in 2025, where he hauled in 35 passes for 541 yards and 4 touchdowns.
He was expected to be heavily involved in the Hurricanes’ passing game in 2026, but now the program will have to find another suitable wideout to fill his role just weeks before the season kicks off.
