Mario Cristobal was obviously excited and relieved to see his Miami team squeeze into the College Football Playoff on Sunday, and he hopes that star nickel Keionte Scott will be able to be a part of the ride.

The Hurricanes head coach shared an injury update with reporters regarding Scott’s status for UM’s first-round Playoff game at Texas A&M on Dec. 20 (noon ET, ABC/ESPN). Scott is nursing a right foot injury and didn’t play in Miami’s last 2 regular-season games. The senior hasn’t played since the Nov. 15 game against North Carolina State.

“We’re not sure. We’re very hopeful,” said Cristobal of Scott’s status going forward. “We know he’s going to be back here in the near future, expected near future. I cannot say exactly, but we do feel like he’s trending in the right direction.”

Cristobal didn’t want to overstep in talking about Scott, knowing patience will be key.

“As it relates to everybody else, we feel really, really good about it. So, that’s the one guy that we’re waiting,” Cristobal said.

Despite missing the past 2 games, Scott has still piled up 44 total tackles this season, 30 of them solo. Scott also has 3 sacks this year, with 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 interception, so his value to Miami’s defense is huge.

Cristobal hopes that in a couple weeks, Scott will be able to show off that value at Kyle Field with everything on the line.
