Mark Richt congratulates Kirby Smart on Alabama win: ‘It’s always fun to beat their ass’
Mark Richt had his fill with Alabama when he was the head coach at Georgia from 2001-15, and that included some head-to-head matchups with the great Nick Saban after Saban took over in Tuscaloosa in 2007.
With the heated SEC rivalry taking place once again on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa between the 2 powerhouse programs and with Georgia taking down the Crimson Tide in their house, Richt felt the moment was right to give Kirby Smart some love.
On Monday morning, during Smart’s regular press conference with reporters, the 66-year-old Richt walked into the domain that he used to own each week and told Smart exactly how he felt about the Dawgs’ conquest of the Tide in Week 6.
But Richt didn’t just shout out what he felt and how he felt. He walked to the podium himself and congratulated Smart for beating Bama.
“It’s always fun to beat their ass,” Richt told Smart for everyone to see and hear.
Smart hasn’t always beaten Alabama. In fact, aside of his win over the Tide in the 2021 national championship game and then beating Bama in last season’s SEC title game, it’s been a struggle for Smart against the guys from Tuscaloosa.
But on Saturday night, Smart and the Dawgs got it done, and Richt wanted to pay tribute.
The win over Alabama was great, but now Georgia needs to shift its focus to Week 7 and a home matchup against the SEC’s other state of Alabama team with Auburn coming to Athens (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN). Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the Bulldogs’ chances to keep the momentum going and take down the Tigers:
