Kentucky coach Mark Stoops has made a habit of reaching into the NFL to hire assistant coaches, most recently with Los Angeles Rams offensive assistant Liam Coen as his new offensive coordinator.

Now a report from Football Scoop suggests that Stoops will make a move to hire Cincinnati Bengals running backs coach Jemal Singleton as UK’s new running backs coach, however, the deal is not finalized at this time. Singleton is in his second season with the Bengals, and fifth as an NFL coach.

This move would fill the gaps caused by the firing of Eddie Gran, who was the offensive coordinator and running backs coach. Coen also replaced Darin Hinshaw as quarterbacks coach. Also this offseason, Stoops hired Eric Wolford previously of South Carolina as offensive line coach. There was a vacancy there following the passing of John Schlarman.

Before Cincinnati, Singleton spent the 2018 season as running backs coach for the Oakland Raiders, and from 2016-17, he was with the Indianapolis Colts.

In 2015, he was with Arkansas as special teams coordinator/running backs coach, and from 2011-14, Singleton served as running backs coach at Oklahoma State.

He played at Air Force in the mid-to-late 1990s, and later spent nine years on the Air Force coaching staff.
