Marquez Callaway flipped the momentum fully in Tennessee’s favor with a dazzling punt return for a touchdown early in the second quarter.
Callaway scored on a 65-yard punt return to put Tennessee up 10-7 with 9:50 left in first half. After the Vols were held without a point on a 17-play drive, the Tennessee defense kept the South Carolina offense in check and Callaway received a punt near midfield.
South Carolina punter Joseph Charlton appeared to out-kick his coverage, but solid blocking by Tennessee and great instincts from Callaway led to his third career punt return TD.
Aside from an early defensive bust on a long South Carolina touchdown, Tennessee has largely controlled this game, now with a 10-7 lead midway through the second quarter. The Vols have a strong edge in time of possession.
