Matt Corral wins Conerly Trophy for top player in state of Mississippi

Matt Corral is already picking up hardware for his standout 2021 season. Corral picked up the Conerly Trophy, the award for the top player in the state of Mississippi, Tuesday.

The trophy, named after College Football Hall of Famer and Ole Miss legend Charlie Conerly, was first awarded in 1996. Ole Miss now has 10 winners, the most of any school. Corral joins past Rebel winners Stewart Patridge (1997), Deuce McAllister (1999), Eli Manning (2001, 2003), Patrick Willis (2006), Bo Wallace (2012), Evan Engram (2016), A.J. Brown (2017) and Elijah Moore (2021).
Per Ole Miss communications, Corral is the only FBS player with more than 3,000 passing yards and 500 rushing yards this season. Corral is one of just 3 QBs to have thrown for at least 20 touchdowns and run for 11 or TDs. Corral’s 11 rushing TDs are third-most ever by an Ole Miss QB. This season, Corral has thrown for 3,339 yards, completing 68 percent of his passes.
