Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden is already getting major props from his new quarterback. Jordan Love recently shouted out the former Texas Longhorn during an interview with ESPN’s Kevin Clark.
Clark asked Love who is the most impressive Packers newcomer and immediately cited Golden. Love believes Golden has all the physical tools to succeed as a pro.
“Man, I think he’s shown up since Day 1 and just really shown his play style, shown what he’s all about,” Love said. “He came in really polished and has been making plays since Day 1. He’s got very aggressive hands, he’s a smooth route runner, he’s got speed. So I think for him, it’s just continuing to understand the playbook and wrap his head around everything we have in. We have a very deep system.”
Golden began his college career at Houston in 2022-23 before spending his final season at Texas. Golden amassed 134 receptions for 1,975 yards and 22 touchdowns in college.
Golden is entering his rookie season with relatively high expectations. According to the latest odds from DraftKings, Golden is +150 to record at least 800 receiving yards during his rookie season.
Love believes the sky is the limit for the 22-year-old first round pick. Golden is the first wide receiver picked in the first round by the Packers since 2002.
“But you can see, when he knows what he’s doing, and he’s feeling confident, he’s been playing lights out,” Love said. “He’s gonna be a stud.”
