Michigan coach on Bryce Underwood: ‘He might actually be Batman’

Michigan Wolverines quarterback Bryce Underwood entered college as one of the most hyped true freshmen in recent memory, and he’s quickly lived up to the billing since being named the starter for the Wolverines.
His unique combination of size and athleticism is something that isn’t found very often at the quarterback position, and he’s quickly drawn some comparisons to some former elite gunslingers that have come through the collegiate ranks in recent years.
Wolverines assistant coach Biff Poggi had another interesting comparison in mind following Underwood’s electric performance against the Central Michigan Chippewas, though, and it didn’t have anything to do with football.
“He might actually be Batman,” Poggi said after the game when asked about his star quarterback. “We need to do a DNA test on him because he could be Batman.”
Anybody who has followed Poggi before knows he’s always been one of the most interesting coaches in the sport, and these types of post-game quips are what make him so fun to cover.
When it comes to Underwood, though, Poggi might actually be onto something with his comparison between Underwood and the Caped Crusader because he does look like an actual superhero at times with the ball in his hands.
In Michigan’s 63-3 win over Central Michigan, Underwood threw for 235 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 114 yards and 2 more scores.
If Underwood can continue to play the way he did against Central Michigan, then he could end up drawing comparisons to another iconic caped DC superhero by season’s end.
