Marcel Reed had about as awful of a start as you can have on Saturday against South Carolina.
Everything that could go wrong went wrong for the Aggies in the first half. Reed completed just 6 passes and threw 2 interceptions. Texas A&M missed a gimme field goal, and the Aggies defense just had zero answers for South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers. Reed and the Aggies entered the locker room trailing 30-3 in front of 100,000+ fans at Kyle Field.
Around that time is when Marcel Reed flipped the switch.
The Texas A&M quarterback flushed his horrible first 30 minutes and put on a clinic in the second half. Reed led 4 touchdown drives while the Aggies defense didn’t allow a single point, culminating in the largest comeback in Texas A&M history. The Aggies, when everyone thought they were dead, ended up securing the win, 31-30.
Postgame, Aggies head coach Mike Elko was asked about Reed’s Herculean effort when it mattered. “That’s what winners do.” Elko said. “They control what they are capable of controlling.”
Here’s more from Elko on Reed’s comeback performance.
With that, Texas A&M remains undefeated on the season with just 2 regular season matchups still left to play — one against Samford and one against rival Texas. If the Aggies continue to get the Marcel Reed they saw in the second half, Texas A&M is going to be a tough out.
