The rumor mill is steadily churning now that head coach openings are available at some major programs. One of the vacancies is at Penn State, who recently fired James Franklin.

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has been linked by multiple outlets to the position with the Nittany Lions. Elko has ties to the state of Pennsylvania and has Texas A&M thriving in just his second year on the job.

However, in his Monday press conference, Elko dismissed any rumors about his interest in the Penn State job.

“I don’t discuss it with my players. I think it’s absolutely hilarious how you guys cover coaches. I think 3 weeks ago I was getting fired. Now I’m getting hired,” Elko said. “You don’t want me to stay but I’m leaving. It’s absolutely hilarious. It’s a waste of brain space to spend any time talking or thinking about any of that stupidity.”

Elko has guided No. 3 Texas A&M to a 7-0 start this season. The Aggies are coming off a 45-42 victory at Arkansas last weekend that pushed them to 4-0 in SEC play. Texas A&M is tied atop the SEC standings with No. 4 Alabama.

Next up for Elko and Texas A&M is a tough road matchup at No. 20 LSU. That game is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday (ABC).
