Mike Leach and Mississippi State are gearing up for Senior Day this week against East Tennessee State.

“It’s a great class and a great group of guys,” Leach said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “We’re excited to go out and play. Senior Days are a little bigger for fans than they are for players. Part of it is you’re going to be around each other a while longer preparing for the bowl.”

Leach was also asked about Jackson State coach Deion Sanders.

“I think Deion’s a great coach,” Leach said. “He’s been successful at so many things. Truly a renaissance guy. The math alone on how long he played baseball is truly amazing.”

Asked for his opinion on officiating this season after Leach had an entertaining halftime interview on ESPN last week, he creatively dodged another question about it.

“That’s obviously a ridiculous question and you know it, unless I plan to spend some money,” Leach said. “You mail me a check, I think $30K will cover it. I’ll have to check the market first. You mail me the check and I’ll give you a heck of an answer.”
