Mississippi State defense silences LSU run game early in Death Valley

The LSU offense hoped to establish the run early in its game against Mississippi State, but the Bulldogs’ front seven simply would not oblige.
Through one quarter, LSU ran the ball on 12 of 15 offensive snaps. It managed just 16 yards on those 11 carries, and was stuffed at the line of scrimmage on four straight plays inside the Mississippi State 2 yard line.
As a result of their lack of success on the ground, the Tigers have hardly gained any traction on offense through 15 minutes of action. The Bulldogs’ offense, meanwhile, has already amassed 156 yards of offense and 14 points on LSU’s home field. Mississippi State has remained balanced on calling eight passes and eight runs in the first quarter.
Of LSU’s 69 total yards of offense for the quarter, 44 came on one play, a trick play involving a completion from tailback Terrence Magee to wideout Malachi Dupre. Only quarterback Anthony Jennings has taken any carry longer than 3 yards.
