The current landscape of college football has made big-time out-of-conference matchups during the regular season increasingly rare as programs increasingly shift their focus to their in-conference slates.
Those iconic home-and-home matchups between non-traditional opponents that make the sport so unique have become an unfortunate casualty of the sport’s changing tides, with numerous programs canceling highly anticipated matchups in favor of easier non-conference games over the past couple of years.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs appear to be bucking this trend, though, as the program announced a home-and-home series with the Oklahoma State Cowboys on their official X account Wednesday afternoon.
Per the announcement, the 2 games are scheduled for the 2030 and 2031 seasons, with the first matchup in Stillwater and the second in Starkville.
Unlike most other Big 12 and SEC showdowns, these 2 programs actually share a decent amount of history. They have met on 5 separate occasions dating back to 1970, with the Pokes currently holding a 3-2 edge in the series.
If this home-and-home actually comes to fruition, then 2030 will be the first time since the 2013 season opener that Mississippi State and Oklahoma State have shared the same field with one another.
