Chris Jans continues to round out his staff, and the Mississippi State coach has brought on a pair of assistants, according to Jeff Goodman of Stadium.
Scott Padgett (Manhattan) and Patrice Days (East Tennessee State) will join the Bulldogs, as Padgett will be special assistant and Days will be director of recruiting. Days had been at ETSU for a year after he spent the last 4 seasons as an assistant coach under Cliff Ellis at Coastal Carolina. Days is familiar with the state, as he played at Piney Woods High School in Piney Woods, Mississippi, and averaged 9 points and 6 rebounds per game as a senior in 2001-02, according to his ETSU bio. He spent a year at Southern (LA) University before an injury forced him to miss the rest of the season. He went on to play one season (2006-07) at Caldwell (NC) Community College before returning to Louisiana.
Padgett is most known to SEC fans from his time at Kentucky in the 1990s. Padgett played from 1995-99. He helped lead the Wildcats to the 1998 NCAA National Championship, where he was named to the NCAA All-Final Four team, as well as the NCAA All-East Regional team and All-SEC during the regular season.
This is Padgett’s second stint in the SEC, as he spent the 2009-10 season at his alma mater on head coach John Calipari’s staff, according to his Manhattan bio.
