Mississippi State lands transfer portal commitment from former South Alabama RB Fluff Bothwell

Mississippi State has turned to the transfer portal to boost its running back room for 2025.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs picked up a commitment from Fluff Bothwell, a running back from South Alabama. Bothwell turned to Hayes Fawcett of On3 to announce his plans to play for Jeff Lebby at Mississippi State.
Bothwell heads to Starkville after 1 season at South Alabama. He will have 3 full seasons of remaining college eligibility.
In his original recruitment, Bothwell was not on the radar of Power 4 programs. Out of Oneonta (Alabama) High School, he was rated 3-stars, the No.89 player in the state, No. 155 running back and No. 2,165 prospect overall in the Class of 2024 on the 247Sports Composite. He signed with South Alabama over offers from Austin Peay, Eastern Michigan, Jacksonville State, Navy, North Alabama and Southeast Missouri State.
A lot has changed in a year for Bothwell.
This season, Bothwell appeared in 12 games. He rushed 111 times for 832 yard and 13 touchdowns. He added 13 catches for 92 yards. Bothwell ran for more than 100 yards 4 times in his true freshman season.
Bothwell’s second recruitment went differently. He was rated the No. 3 running back and No. 42 player overall in the transfer portal by 247Sports.
