Mississippi State football has promoted from within to address its safeties coach position. Former assistant DB coach Evan Harvey, who has been with the program since Jeff Lebby arrived in 2024, will take on the role starting this season, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Harvey also served as a defensive analyst for the Bulldogs.

Harvey graduated from Lehigh University in 2017 and made 3 stops before landing at Mississippi State. He got his start as a DB coach at Moravian College in Pennsylvania before taking an LB coach position at John Carroll University in Ohio.

Harvey made the lead to Division I in 2020, accepting a position with Youngstown State coaching special teams and defensive backs. As mentioned above, he landed at Mississippi State in 2024.

This is a big year for head coach Jeff Lebby, who holds a 7-18 record as Mississippi State’s head coach. Lebby is entering Year 3 and will need to improve upon a 1-7 conference record from last season after starting the season 4-0 with a win over Arizona State.
