Mississippi State returns to AP Top 25 for first time since late 2022

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are ranked No. 24 in this week’s AP Top 25 poll, marking the first time since late 2022 that the Bulldogs are polled among the best 25 teams in the country. Mississippi State downed South Carolina after a slow start turned into a Bulldogs comeback to keep MSU undefeated entering Week 4.
Mississippi State has had a rough past few years after finishing the 2022 season ranked No. 22. The Bulldogs went on to beat Illinois in the ReliaQuest Bowl, putting the finishing touches on a 9-4 season.
After winning 9 games in 2022, the Bulldogs have won 12 games across the past 3 seasons combined. Jeff Lebby started his Mississippi State tenure with a 2-10 record, improved to 5-8 last year before 2026’s 3-0 start.
Kamario Taylor has been a big part of Mississippi State’s early success this season. The Bulldogs QB has a simply astounding arm and the accuracy to match — he’s perhaps the most improved player in college football and a legitimate candidate to win the Heisman trophy is Mississippi State can keep this run going.
Next up, the Bulldogs are set to host No. 19 Mizzou in a top 25 clash at Davis Wade Stadium.
