Mississippi State running back announces he has entered transfer portal, indicates he will leave program

Part of the mass exodus at Mississippi State is becoming more official.

Running back Kareem Walker, who was reportedly in the mix to enter the transfer portal, has done it, according to a tweet from Walker himself. That takes the number of players to leave the program in recent weeks to at least eight as coach Mike Leach looks to make over the roster in his first season.

Walker then retweeted a comment from former coach Joe Moorhead, via Tyler Horka of the Clarion-Ledger, who said nearly a year to the day that Walker “has a chance to be really, really good.” He says the bye week practices have been big on developing players who don’t figure into this year’s week-to-week game plans.”

Walker added, “Stamp it!!!” to that retweet.

Walker has already had a winding road in college football. He started his career at Michigan, and then transferred to Fort Scott C.C. before he landed in Starkville. He didn’t see any action in 2019, and hasn’t registered any stats this season, but the 6-foot-2, 220-pound back from Irvington, N.J. may look to be reunited with Moorhead, who is now the offensive coordinator at Oregon.
