The Mississippi State Bulldogs are set to host one of their biggest non-conference matchups in recent memory on Saturday night as they play host to the No. 12-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils at Davis Wade Stadium.

The Bulldogs will be looking to pull off one of the bigger upsets of the early season, and they’ll be pulling out all the stops to get there, including utilizing their star true freshman quarterback, Kamario Taylor, in some special packages to throw the Sun Devils off their game.

ESPN analyst Pete Thamel broke down the matchup on College GameDay, and touched on how he thinks Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby will utilize the highly touted freshman later Saturday night.

“As for Mississippi State today, they host No. 12 Arizona State. Look for highly-touted true freshman Kamario Taylor to see some snaps in place of Blake Shapen,” Thamel said. “Look for high leverage situations like red zone, short yardage in Starkville. They see him long term as the most talented quarterback they’ve had since Dak Prescott.”

Taylor has all the tools to become the next elite dual-threat quarterback for the Bulldogs, and it’s clear that the team is already looking to utilize his skillset in any way they can.

It will be interesting to see just how Taylor ends up being used against Arizona State, and whether or not it ends up being enough to turn the tide in MSU’s favor.
