Mississippi State pulled off a major upset in Week 2 with its home victory vs. then-No. 12 Arizona State. Now, the game-winning touchdown from that game has earned national Play of the Week.

Blake Shapen’s 58-yard touchdown pass to Brenen Thompson with 30 seconds left lifted the Bulldogs to the win and the recognition from Cheez-It and the FWAA.

Shapen completed 19 of his 33 passes for 279 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Thompson tallied 6 receptions for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Mississippi State is off to a 2-0 start with the upset vs. Arizona State and the Week 1 34-17 win at Southern Miss. Now, the Bulldogs will strive to win 3 straight games to start the season for the first time since 2018.

Mississippi State will have a strong chance to accomplish that feat against visiting Alcorn State from the SWAC on Saturday. Alcorn State has begun its season with back-to-back losses to Northwestern State and Alabama A&M. Mississippi State leads all the time-series 2-0 vs. Alcorn State, with the games coming in 2010 and 2023 for a combined score of 100-23.

Alcorn State at Mississippi State is slated for a 6 pm. ET kickoff (ESPN+, SEC Network+).
