Another step toward kicking off the season took place on Sunday when Missouri announced its 3 team captains for the 2021 season.

Case Cook, a redshirt senior offensive lineman, Martez Manuel, a junior defensive back, and quarterback Connor Bazelak were named to the leadership roles.

Cook has started at right guard for 20 straight games, and is one of 2 Mizzou offensive lineman to start every 2020 game (Michael Maietti). Manuel has played in 22 games for the Tigers, and made 64 tackles last season, which was third on the team. He had 5 pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Bazelak is the reigning SEC Freshman of the Year and was among the nation’s most efficient passers in the country last year, finishing at 17th with a completion percentage of 67.3 percent. He had 7 touchdowns and 6 interceptions last year.

At SEC Media Days, coach Eli Drinkwitz talked about Bazelak.

“We’re trying to get Connor Bazelak a back-to-back SEC freshman of the year (awards),” he said. “I don’t know if that’s possible, but maybe with COVID exception it is. We have a commodity at the quarterback position. We’re excited about the growth he can show and earn. We’ve added playmakers around him.”
