Mizzou assistant wide receivers coach Keyan Williams is leaving Columbia for a full-time staff job at Sam Houston State.

Williams, who had been with the program since 2023, announced on his social media page Thursday that he has accepted a job on Phil Longo’s staff with the Bearkats. Williams thanked Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz and said he would be “forever grateful” for his time with the Tigers.

“Words can’t express how much I enjoyed being a part of the group the last 2 seasons,” Williams wrote. “(They) made me a better coach every single day.”

Williams joined the Mizzou staff in the summer of 2023 after spending 2 seasons coaching receivers for Missouri Southern. Before that, he was a graduate assistant at Tulane and a wide receivers coach for Wayne State College in Nebraska. Williams’ father, Keith, is one of the most highly-regarded receiver coaches in the country.

As a player, Williams spent time at Fresno State (2015), Nebraska (2016-17), and Ball State. Injuries limited his time on the field and he quickly moved into coaching after his playing career was up.

At Mizzou, Williams assisted wideout coach and recruiting coordinator Jacob Peeler. With less than a month to go before fall camp starts up for the Tigers, Drinkwitz can look to bring in a new offensive assistant to help coach the Tiger receivers. And that group looks quite different in 2025. Only 2 players caught more than 30 passes for Mizzou last season and both of them are gone. Marquis Johnson and Joshua Manning are expected to step into bigger roles for the team, and the offseason addition of former Mississippi State wideout Kevin Coleman Jr. should supply the Tigers with another starter.
