Mizzou quarterback Austin Simmons expresses annoyance with hype around MSU’s cowbells

Starkville is set to host a ranked vs. ranked matchup this weekend, and that means Mississippi State‘s cowbells will be able to be heard all the way in Alabama.
Missouri is set to visit town for a clash of unbeaten teams hoping to prove they have what it takes to compete with the alphas at the top of the SEC’s pecking order.
The Tigers have only visited Davis Wade Stadium twice in their program’s history, and only once in a non-COVID setting. Thus, it’s reasonable for there to be concerns about how Eli Drinkwitz’ bunch will handle a juiced-up atmosphere in Starkville.
However, there is one player who isn’t sweating the cacophony of noise he is about to walk into.
Mizzou quarterback Austin Simmons suited up at Mississippi State while with Egg-Bowl rivals Ole Miss in 2025, and therefore he’s not fazed by the impact the cowbells may have.
In fact, he’s growing tired of them.
“They were my old rival in the past, and honestly…it [the cowbell hype] grows to be annoying,” Simmons said. “I hate hearing this whole thing about the cowbells, so it’ll be pretty exciting walking into this whole environment.”
Simmons may feel that he’s prepared for the Bulldog faithful’s worst, but with their team off to a sizzling start, the fans in StarkVegas will likely bring some extra energy to the game come Saturday. And now, the opposition’s starting quarterback has provided them with some bulletin board material.
Mississippi State and Missouri are set to kick off at 7:45 ET, with the game being broadcast by the SEC Network.
