Mizzou quarterback Sam Horn is off the board in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Horn, who is a hard-throwing pitcher in addition to his work under center, has been selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is the No. 525 overall pick in this year’s draft and was selected in the 17th round:

Horn was considered to be a top-200 prospect entering the draft, but slid to the 17th round likely due to signability concerns. Given his fall down the draft board, it seems likely Horn intends to return to Columbia for another year as a two-sport athlete.

However, it remains possible Horn will sign with the Dodgers and being a pro baseball career immediately. Draftees have two weeks — until July 28 — to sign with their clubs or they will have to re-enter the draft next year.

Horn has only thrown 15 collegiate innings, so his draft pedigree is mostly rooted in projection. Horn’s fastball has reportedly reached 98 miles per hour.

As for his football career, Horn is expected to serve as Mizzou’s backup quarterback this season to Beau Pribula but it’s possible he could earn a role with the Tigers on the gridiron as well.
