Mizzou RB Ahmad Hardy was the victim of a shooting in Mississippi on Sunday while attending a concert, according to a statement released by the university.
Hardy, one of the top running backs in the nation, underwent surgery later that day and is in stable condition, per the release.
“Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans. We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support,” the Mizzou football statement reads.
The Tigers said there is no current timeline for Hardy to return to football, but more information will be provided when it becomes available. Of course, football is secondary during times like this, as the most important thing will be for Hardy to fully recover from his injuries.
Hardy started his career at Louisiana Tech in 2024 before transferring to Mizzou in 2025. Last season, he ran for 1,649 yards to lead the SEC, adding 16 touchdowns on the ground as well. He’s a potential first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft and will likely once again be one of the best running backs in the nation this fall, if he’s healthy.
The Tigers open the 2026 season on Thursday, Sept. 3, at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
