The No. 13 Mizzou Tigers are getting ready to hit the road in Week 7 for a road game against the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels, and they’ll be looking to slow down former MU running back Kewan Lacy in any way they can.

Lacy spent his freshman year with Mizzou in 2024 before moving to Oxford last season, where he broke out as one of the top players in the country, racking up 1,744 total yards and 24 touchdowns on a nation-leading 335 touches.

Even though he plays for a new program, Lacy still has plenty of friends at Mizzou, and fellow running back Jamal Roberts is one of them. The leading rusher for the Tigers was asked about his friendship with Lacy on Tuesday afternoon, saying that they still keep in touch.

“When he first got here, I took him under my wing, just like I do anybody in the running backs room,” Roberts said, per Missouri beat reporter Nathalie Jones. “Just showing him the way when he got here as a freshman… Very talented kid. I love the guy, and we still talk to this day… He likes to compete a lot. So, there’s going to be a lot of competing on the field this Saturday with him and me.”

Roberts was a redshirt freshman with the Tigers when Lacy joined the program in 2024, and the 2 shared carries in the backfield as rotational pieces behind upperclassmen Nate Noel and Marcus Carroll.

Fast forward to 2026, and the pair are the 2 of the top running backs in the SEC, with Roberts currently leading the league in rushing yards and Lacy remaining a lethal playmaker out of the backfield for the Rebels.
