Missouri is finalizing a deal to hire former Clemson offensive coordinator Garrett Riley as an offensive assistant coach, according to a report.

That news was first shared by On3’s Pete Nakos on Friday afternoon. Riley would be taking an assistant job rather than a coordinator position, as the Tigers have already hired Chip Lindsey to replace Kirby Moore as OC.

It’s unclear at this time what Riley’s role will be on staff if the hire is finalized. He’s served as offensive coordinator and QB coach at each of his 3 previous coaching jobs. Sean Gleeson worked with quarterbacks on Mizzou’s staff in 2025.

The brother of USC head coach Lincoln Riley, Garrett spent the last 3 seasons at Clemson but was fired following a disappointing 2025 campaign. The Tigers fell well below expectations on the offensive side of the ball even with an experienced quarterback in Cade Klubnik.

Still, Riley brings plenty of positive experience to Mizzou. He was TCU’s offensive coordinator when the Horned Frogs made a stunning run to the national championship game at the end of the 2022 season. Riley won the Broyles Award for his efforts that year before moving on to Clemson.

Mizzou will be looking to take another step forward in 2026.
