Mizzou using lack of SEC night games as motivation vs. South Carolina

The lights of Faurot Field will be on for Mizzou’s Week 4 game against South Carolina.

The Tigers had 3 night games in 2024. Just one, Oklahoma, was an SEC contest. That’s a point that Eli Drinkwitz didn’t let go unnoticed on Tuesday while meeting with the media.

“We’ve only had three since 2021, while others in the league have had way more than that,” Mizzou’s head coach said, per ABC 17’s Nathalie Jones. “It’s an awesome opportunity for us to take advantage of that.”

The Tigers’ game against Oklahoma in 2024, a 6:45 p.m. CT kickoff, went well for the hosts. They won that one 30-23. And in 2023, they slipped past Florida in a game that kicked off at 6:30 CT.

Drinkwitz will certainly be hoping Saturday’s game against the Gamecocks, scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, keeps that run going — with or without LaNorris Sellers in the South Carolina lineup.

“I think we kind of just keep the same mindset, but we also realize that the SEC is a tough conference. You’ve got really good players, and you’ve got really good coaching staffs all the way around,” Drinkwitz said. “So I think we’ve done a really good job over the non-conference schedule of handling the details. and just doing our job.”
