The Texas Longhorns came in at No. 7 in the first College Football Playoff rankings. National pundits, like Stephen A. Smith, believe their placement could allow them to lose another game and still make the CFP. Their claims may get put to the test quickly, thanks to Texas’ injury outlook against Missouri.

Nine Longhorns appeared on Wednesday night’s availability report for Saturday’s matchup with the Tigers. Running back Hollywood Smothers is out for the contest. Additionally, wide receivers Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo are questionable. Edge defender Colin Simmons, who has been dealing with a high ankle sprain, is also questionable.

Wingo leads Texas in receptions (36) and receiving yards (470), while Coleman paces the team in touchdown grabs (7). Their potential inactive status would put the bulk of Arch Manning’s passes in the direction of Emmett Mosley V and Jermaine Bishop Jr.

Smothers, who works in tandem with Raleek Brown, has the sixth-most receptions (10) of any Longhorn. His absence gives Brown a heavier workload and could lead to more chances for Derrek Cooper and Michael Terry III.

Texas (6-2, 3-2 SEC) currently has a 64.5% chance to make the CFP, per ESPN’s Football Power Index. Mizzou (6-2, 3-2 SEC) boasts only 9.4% odds, but would improve that figure with a win. The Longhorns and Tigers kick off at noon ET on Saturday (ESPN).
