It’s a big day on Rocky Top.
Tennessee football faces off against Georgia at 3:30 p.m. from Neyland Stadium. Naturally, with the massive SEC faceoff being one of the biggest games of the early season, College GameDay made the decision last week to be on-location in Knoxville.
There are a lot of reasons to be excited as a Tennessee fan, but those reasons are not exclusive to the gridiron. Over on the basketball court, Rick Barnes and Co. are building something really exciting despite losing Zakai Zeigler, Chaz Lanier and Jahmai Mashack to the NBA this offseason.
The hoops hype starts with 5-star freshman Nate Ament, a 6-9 forward who is the Vols’ highest-rated commit in program history. And it appears he has some charisma, too. He was seen on-location outside Neyland Stadium pumping up the Vols crowd, and Vols fans are fired up early.
Check it out:
Ament and the Vols are expected to be strong this season with Maryland PG transfer Ja’Kobi Gillespie and the return of Felix Okpara and Cade Phillips in the frontcourt. This appears to be one of Tennessee’s deepest squads, but there may be some growing pains as Ament, Gillespie and other newcomers jell with the rest of the crew.
While basketball is on the rise on Rocky Top, football will always be king. Tennessee is looking to snap an 8-game losing streak to the Bulldogs this afternoon, riding high after starting 2-0 with wins over Syracuse and ETSU. Bulldogs QB Gunner Stockton will be making his first career true road start with a Dawgs offensive line that has raised some questions to start the year.
Still, the Bulldogs run game appears improved and that Kirby Smart defense is still as strong as ever – which will push new QB Joey Aguilar for the first time this season.
Can Tennessee take advantage? Settle in for a simply massive battle upcoming on ABC.
