The coronavirus is a topic on many people’s minds these days, as people around the world are becoming infect and some are dying from the illness.
The NCAA is closely monitoring the situation as the NCAA Tournament approaches in a couple of weeks.
On Tuesday, the organization announced the formation of the COVID-19 advisory panel, which will meet several times over the next couple of weeks to discuss the virus and plans for the tournament.
“The NCAA is committed to conducting its championships and events in a safe and responsible manner,” said Donald Remy, NCAA chief operating officer. “Today we are planning to conduct our championships as planned, however, we are evaluating the COVID-19 situation daily and will make decisions accordingly.
“We are actively monitoring COVID-19 in the United States and will make recommendations on competition based on the evolving medical protocols established by the CDC, NIH and state and local authorities,” said NCAA Chief Medical Officer Brian Hainline. “We are in daily contact with the CDC and are advising leadership on the Association’s response to this outbreak.”
For now, the NCAA is planning on everything going on as planned, but that could change. Top medical professionals are making their recommendations, so we’ll see what happens.
