Vanderbilt’s defense got some great news this week as the incoming transfer from Oregon Rutger Reitmaier has been granted immediate eligibility for Derek Mason’s team. The school officially announced the news on Wednesday.

Reitmaier was a three-star signee for Oregon in the 2017 recruiting cycle and was named as a U.S. Army All-American. He is originally from Nashville and signed with the Ducks over Tennessee and Michigan. Following his first spring practice in Eugene, Reitmaier left the Oregon program and did not officially land at Vanderbilt until January of this year.

“I’m excited to be part of the Vanderbilt family,” Reitmaier said in a prepared statement. “I’m looking forward to being part of an outstanding defense with the Commodores.”

Mason offered up these comments on the Reitmaier news via a prepared statement.

“Adding Rutger to our roster is huge. He adds depth, athleticism and will be a key piece for us. I’m excited about what an impactful player he is, and it’s great to add another quality player from Nashville.”
