NCAA releases statement on multi-year transfer eligibility ruling

The NCAA released a statement on the ruling Wednesday afternoon that multi-year transfers will be given temporary eligibility after a hearing at the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Wheeling, West Virginia.
The statement, which was reported by Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, says that it will not prevent multiple-time transfers from playing immediately. However, this statement only covers the 14-day period as ruled by the court, until Dec. 27.
In other words, this is not a permanent change to the policy. However, a preliminary injunction hearing is set for Dec. 27 that may impose a more permanent ruling from the judge.

This is not particularly useful for football, but it does mean that, if teams chose to do so, 2-time transfers who are currently sitting out such as West Virginia’s RaeQuan Battle and LSU’s Jalen Cook can play without repercussion for the next 2 weeks.
Now, the ball is in each program’s court. We’ll see if some teams choose to take advantage of the NCAA’s statement on Wednesday.
